Emerging Ireland Team Donates R250 000 to Heidedal Child & Youth Care Centre

Emerging Ireland team did not use their three-match tour by just focusing on the Toyota Challenge. They created a great relationship with an orphanage centre known as Heidedal Child & Youth Care Centre in Bloemfontein.

Heidedal Child & Youth Care Centre has been taking care of abandoned and abused children since 1986. They have been nurturing children from the age of 1-22-years-old.

Amid their busy schedule training and preparing for their games in the Toyota Challenge, the Irish team paid a visit to the centre to play, dance, and chat with the children and staff.

Irish Rugby Football Union Communications Manager, David O Siochain, shared how they enjoyed their time in Bloemfontein, competing in the Toyota Challenge, and visiting Heidedal Child & Youth Care Centre.

"The Emerging Ireland squad thoroughly enjoyed its time in Bloemfontein competing in the Toyota Challenge hosted by the Toyota Cheetahs.

Outside of the rugby, a highlight of this tour was our visit to the Heidedal Orphanage run by Caroline and her mother and so many committed volunteers.

The experience of playing time with the children who have experienced such hardship in their young lives was a very special one for our group.

Emerging Ireland got touched by the drive and commitment of the centre which led to the team donating R250 000 after their win in the Toyota Challenge they played against the Toyota Cheetahs.

The work that Caroline and her team are doing is inspiring, we were touched by their drive and commitment, and following our Toyota Challenge victory over the Toyota Cheetahs the player group wanted to donate the R250 000 prize money to the orphanage to support their building project which will enable them to care for more children." David O Siochain concluded.

Free State Cheetahs Chief Executive Officer(Pty) Ltd, Ross van Reenen shared how grateful he is to Toyota SA for making it possible for the Toyota Cheetahs to host such a notable tournament and his appreciation to the Irish team for their honorable gesture by giving back to the community of Bloemfontein.

"We are grateful to Toyota SA for making it possible for us to a world-class tournament in Bloemfontein. It is notable of Emerging Ireland donated its prize money to the centre, showing true integrity, and I believe it will help alleviate the need at the centre.

David Nuciforia, Ireland Rugby Football Union's Performance Director, is a man with an incredible rugby vision, He is greatly indebted for his part in the Irish's participation in the Toyota Challenge. Ross van Rieneen concludes.

Huge gratitude needs to be given to Toyota for bringing up such a notable rugby tournament and placing it in the heart of Bloemfontein.

Toyota has been the cornerstone of the Toyota Cheetahs and to get to see a team like the Irish giving back to the community in need with the prize money they won at the Toyota Challenge is a heartwarming gesture.
