Stadium History

- Build in 1955, was originally used for rugby, athletics and cycling with a capacity of 12 000

  • - The Stadium was rebuild in 1995 as rugby and soccer grounds – capacity 36 000 to host the 1995 Rugby World Cup

  • - Upgraded in 2009 to host the Confederations Cup and the FIFA World CUP in 2010

  • - Current capacity is 42 000

  • - Today the stadium is a multi-purpose stadium not only for rugby and soccer but also for government and community events

  • - It is the home base of the Toyota Cheetahs, Toyota Free State Cheetahs and Bloemfontein Celtic Football club.

  • - The stadium is owned by the Mangaung Metro and the Free State Rugby Union has a long-term lease agreement with Mangaung Metro.
